Climate Futures adaptation expert, Assoc. Prof Sarah Boulter, has published a piece in The Conversation on the new climate adaptation blueprint that Australia has taken to COP26 in Glasgow.
Assoc. Prof Boulter was among many researchers and stakeholders consulted in developing the new strategy.
The article assesses what the new plan contains and where it is lacking. It notes the plan’s strategies to drive investment and action through collaboration, improve climate information and services, assess progress and improve over time.
However, as Assoc. Prof. also notes, the plan is not enshrined in legislation, and is a high-document, rather than a detailed strategy that can guide action on the ground.
The article concludes that it makes good social and fiscal sense to invest in reducing risks well before disasters unfold.
