Climate Futures moves to Geography at UTAS

In July 2019, Climate Futures moved from the Antarctic Climate and Ecosystems Cooperative Research Centre (ACE CRC) to the Discipline of Geography at the University of Tasmania.

Between 1991 and 2019, the Antarctic Climate and Ecosystems CRC (ACE CRC) was Australia’s primary vehicle for understanding the role of the Antarctic region in the global climate system, and the implications for marine ecosystems. Climate Futures for Tasmania, as it was initially known, was first established in the ACE CRC, and concentrated on modelling the effects of a changing climate on the Australian island state of Tasmania. After the term of ACE CRC was successfully completed in 2019, the Climate Futures group joined the university’s discipline of Geography.

The move coincides with a change in emphasis for Climate Futures, including greater links with cross-disciplinary researchers in human geography and the social sciences, and a greater focus on adaptation pathways under climate change.
